Program Officer Position Description
The R.J. McElroy Trust seeks a highly organized and driven Program Officer to support the grant making, community leadership and administrative functions of the McElroy Trust. This position is full-time equivalent at 32 hours per week.
Primary responsibilities:
Grantmaking activities:
- Provide exceptional customer service to our grantees and applicants throughout the request process. Assist applicants with missing elements of applications.
- Prepare grant docket for Trustee meetings. Provide grant request analysis to Trustees.
- Record Trustee decisions in our online Grants Management System, Foundant.
- Document and update grantmaking practices for training of staff/ Trustees.
- Support a portfolio of grantees in the execution of their work, including problem solving and site visits.
- Provide a public face for the McElroy Trust with grantees and applicants, as called upon.
Support Trust programs
- Assist with implementation of the Fellowship and World’s Greatest Spring Break for Kids programs.
- Support and maintain the Youth Emergency & Opportunity Fund, including developing relationships with school leaders.
- Support the programmatic activities of the Gold Star Program in partnership with the Gold Star Coordinator.
- Implement promotional activities for programs as needed.
Story-telling and assistance in community leadership
- Remain current on emerging issues and trends in philanthropy, the nonprofit community and specific areas relevant to the McElroy Trust.
- Regularly develop and share stories via the Trust’s communication vehicles, including website and social media.
- As assigned by the Executive Director, represent the Trust at meetings, events and in coalition work.
- Support the development of strategic partnerships and initiatives in alignment with the McElroy Trust.
Supports Executive Director, Board of Trustees and McElroy Trust with core administrative functions.
- Process payments and review financial documentation for accuracy.
- Assist in preparing board and community meetings.
- Assist in maintaining records of the Trust.
- Maintain the Trust’s physical office and operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Personal qualities/ skills the Program Officer should demonstrate:
- High level of integrity and confidentiality, both personal and professional.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to gain proficiency with our grant management software, Foundant and our website, Squarespace.
- Organized, motivated self-starter; ability to work independently.
- Experience in building relationships to move the Trust’s work forward.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to include communication with active listening and balancing divergent views, dependability and professionalism, among others.
- Must have and maintain a U.S. state driver’s license.
- Previous nonprofit or foundation experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Salary: The position is 32 hours/ week with an annual salary of $49,000 - $55,000, commensurate with experience.
